Paying employees into the ground? #SHRM13



There is always a wonderful balance between rewarding the shareholders and the employees for productivity. But I just saw something on the SHRM floor that I am still trying to figure out how to assimilate it. 

Institutionalizing Payday Loans for your Employees.?

The concept just blows my mind as to how does a HR person knowingly pay their employees so low, that they need/want to institutionalize a Pay Day program. One particular vendor even has a portal that you can link to your employee portal! 

At the same time, they had some valid statistics that showed 64% of folks were not liquid enough to get $1,000 for an emergency. 

So this led me to the High Deductible plans, and wondering if people are putting themselves in a corner? High Deductible Health Plans currently have a prevalence of 19%. Hopefully those 19% are not part of the 64%?
