| | | | | | Dear Friends! First and foremost, I am praying that this update finds you and your families in wonderful spirits and health. 2013 has been a pretty amazing year for the Gilberts, and as usual, has the unexpected turns and hills that makes life so much fun! Franz II, completed his 6th grade in home schooling, and then this fall he was given the opportunity to attend the new Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) Academy that the public schools newly opened. While this was a big shift for him, he has taken the challenge on and just completed 2nd quarter by getting Honor Roll again. This spring he completed his training, tested, and was successfully awarded with his First Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do. In his spare time, he has continued to pursue Boy Scouts - and is blazing a rapid path through the ranks. All of the Grandparents were recently here when he was awarded the Star rank! For those not familiar with Boy Scouts - getting the Star rank before age 13 is pretty rare. Franz’ renaissance like hobbies continue to amaze us - as he just finished a book writing course, does master level painting, and loves reading historical fiction. Ashley went through a career change again this year - as she was able to resign her successful tenure as homeschool teacher - which has allowed her to put renewed focus on her Financial Coaching Institute. Her business continued to grow, even while she was homeschooling (not sure how she did that!). In the last three months, she has spent time with clients getting ideas and suggestions and just launched her new website www.financialcoachinginstitute.com. If any of your New Year’s Resolutions involve finances - I encourage you to take a look. Also, as a small gift - here is the friends and family discount of 10% (Coupon code: Friends). Be sure and “Like” her on Facebook! Ashley and I also went through a record year of serving for the church, and it is amazing. One of our callings is doing premarital counseling for couples - and we feel so blessed to have found this ministry. We get to meet these amazing couples, which are so full of love for each other, share with them our lessons on how to make marriage work, and yet, it always seems like we too - learn from our couples. I continue to be lucky to have a great position at Gulfstream Aerospace, where I get to study, learn, crunch numbers, and do long term strategy stuff for the HR organization. I have figured out that HR is not only my profession, but also my hobby and ministry. My blogging continues to grow in followers, and I was invited to blog at some of the top HR conferences this year - for free! In a very cool honor, I was voted to be one of the US representatives for the new ISO HR standard that is being developed - which led to a trip to Holland. Lastly, I helped start the Employment ministry for the church this year - and in the first event - there were over 150 people in attendance. As I look to 2014, I know how blessed my family is, and we can’t wait to see what the Lord has in store for us. This is not a cliché, Ashley and I often sit down in wonder and amazement at how many things we have done in our lives, and what results from those conversations - is awe at how many fantastic people we have had the pleasure to get to meet and know. It is with this thankfulness in our heart - that I want to thank you - as each one of you has had an impact on our lives and has made our journey through the years so eventful. Drop me a line and let me know what is going on in your world! Happy New Year!
