Employer Brands and Employee Reviews? Recruiting 2.0! #Glassdoor

Have you ever thought of letting employees or candidates review your company - publicly? With no restraints? While most of us would probably love the idea that our process is so good it could withstand public scrutiny - putting it into practice is a different matter.

Enter Glassdoor.com.
This site could viewed as a potential PR nightmare for companies and their HR departments. The companies get rated on a number of facets, and people can submit their salaries, the interview process and what is like to work inside the company. So think of how crazy the data could be? The people could post net salaries, interviews that happened but without HR oversight, and reviews being done by disgruntled employees.  I can see an online petition for HR asking site to be taken down already starting.

The Reality:
Glassdoor has exploded in terms of use. How big - lets just say I dare you to check and see if your company is listed on there - I bet you it is! How do I know - because Glassdoor has over 250,000 companies listed on their site and they have over 4.3 Million reviews. The pace isn’t slowing down - as they get 13 million visits a month!

The Extreme:
But here is the extreme, HR departments are beginning to really grab hold of this - as the data is rich, and what better way to convince potential employees that they should join your team. Glassdoor recently put together a list of the top ten companies that are embracing this approach. And the winners are:

1.       Nordstrom: The ever-chic brand stays true to its image pairing an unrivaled fashion sense with just a touch of wit on the company’s carefully crafted employer profile.
2.       Amazon: Aiming to attract cultural fit from the get-go, Amazon keeps it simple when explaining its value to job seekers.
3.       AT&T: This telecommunications company shares that jobs aren’t just about the day to day, they’re about rewarding careers.
4.       Waste Management: Think dealing with trash is dirty work? Waste Management brings environmental consciousness to the forefront of its offerings to job seekers.
5.       NVIDIA: Want to deal with graphics in a whole new way? NVIDIA invites the inspired job seeker.
6.       Yammer: Think teamwork is important? This company looks to reach people that want to help others collaborate better in the workplace.
7.       Home Depot: Want to take your tinkering out of the garage? Home Depot invites you to put your passion to work.
8.       CVS: With a philosophy showing candidates upfront that CVS Caremark is about innovation and health —it’s no wonder that the company rounds out Glassdoor’s list with its exemplary profile.
9.       Spotify: Spotify is a place to work where you can inspire playlists worldwide.
10.   Allstate: Think insurance can’t be social? AllState breaks the mold and works to connect with candidates online.
