CEO's are really, really bright people. They typically don't get there without having some pretty good decision skills. So imagine if you were a CEO - and were posed with the following issue:
1. You know there is stuff being done in HR that needs to be done, and hopefully some of it is adding value.
2. Your CHRO and HR leadership team doesn't seem to function well as a business leader - HRPA Study
3. Talent scarcity is starting to become a major, major concern of yours - and if you don't get it figured out - you are sunk. 78% of CEO's are planning on making changes to their Talent Management Strategies in 2014 (PWC)
So given the above facts - here are two potential brainstorms you might have.
Brainstorm #1 - Hire an external Chief HR Officer as they must have it figured out.
CAHR's did a great study and found that only 20% of HR officers will come from internal to HR. Most of the hires occur elsewhere. So CEO's are definitely trying this route.Brainstorm #2 - Give HR to a non-HR executive
Well if HR can't figure out HR, maybe someone else can? Harvard Business Review has found that companies are starting to go down that path for the CHRO seat. This is starting to become more a trend.HR has now become a problem that is on the CEO's mind. So if you were the CEO - what would you do? Remember, CEO's often have a high action orientation - so don't imagine for too long what your CEO might do - as they might go ahead and do it!
What do you think?
