One of my colleagues went to the SHRM talent conference, and shared with me some of the presentations. One of the interesting ones was the Keynote speaker - Jane McGonigal, author of Reality is Broken, Why Games Make us Better and How they can change the world.
Janet provides some great stats to make us realize how the workforce is changing!
- There are 1 Billion Gamers around the world!
- 300 Million minutes a day are spent on games
- 170 hours a year spent on Games per Gamer.. That is one full month
- 92% of 2 year olds play games
But given the growth of gaming, so has the research into the impacts - and the results are really wild! The results are showing that Gamers are someone you want to employ!
- They are more resilient
- They are more creative
- Social Gamers are more likely to help others
- The Data is also showing it helps with autism, depression and anxiety.
Based on the deck I have read, I encourage you to look at Janet's book as I have added it to my nightstand too!
