Glassdoor at #HRTechconf: Employee Reviews - really happening?

I was at Circuit City, running e-commerce operations, when the concept of product reviews first came around - and it was a very nervous time. What happened if the consumers blasted a product that we had gone deep on from an inventory perspective? But slowly, we started to realize that the reviews were great and also other people really followed the reviews. A little bit later - we (in HR) all saw Glassdoor enter the marketplace - and this seemed a little more curious. As when you review a product - you don't have a bias - but when you write a review for your company - wouldn't you have a bias?

Well, I had the opportunity to talk with Samantha Zupan at Glassdoor - and it turns out that the reviews are a lot more objective than you may initially think. In fact 67% of reviewers say that they are satisfied or OK with their employer (which seems to be higher than the engagement numbers we are hearing).

So Glassdoor has continued to grow and now allows companies to be involved in the process too. The result is that Glass door is averaging over 13 Million unique visits a month, and has reviews for over 210,000 employers. Plus 90% of glassdoor visitors say that they will look at the reviews prior to accepting a job offer at an employer.

So what does this mean from a HR perspective?

Just like you would tell someone from JVC that they should know what the reviews of their product are, now there are enough reviews that someone from your organization should be at least aware of what is going on at Glassdoor!
